When did I realize my obsession with skin??
Probably the first time I identified with what my skin was actually saying to me.
I think it's very important to understand not only what your skin want's but what the body need's.
When I ask my client's what texture or skin type you have? Most say oily (Ladies not all women are oily having a little shine doesn't qualify) or they don't know at all. This response is every make up artist pet peeve because you've only had skin for well I don't know your WHOLE life!😩 There's a no judgement zone here🤷🏽however if you analyze the response realistically you could understand our frustration.
This is also in many ways sad I mean extremely sad because almost your entire life you neglected your skin. At the very least communicate!
Let me break it down in different skin types first, so you could properly identify with what texture best suits you.
Oily: Acne-prone skin is usually oily, However oily skin does not have to be acne-prone: Pores only get clogged if dead skin cells get trapped with bacteria and sebum.
Combination: Your skin can be dry or normal in some areas and oily in others, such as the T-zone (nose, forehead, and chin).
Dry: Lacks moisture or sebum, often characterized by a pattern of fine lines, scaling, and itching.
Key words Lacks Moisture !!
Dehydration: Generally refers to skin that is lacking in oil.
Now that I broke down the BASICS of skin types you could now address the Needs and Wants.
This goes back to my opening statement for many years I didn't listen to my skin. By using products that didn't serve a purpose for my skin type. As I got older and my skin barriers changed and yes skin sheds( That's why you should exfoliate at least twice a week).
Realizing💡my skin type is Oily/Combination but although I've came to terms with this I truly embrace my natural oils. For me it exudes radiance, luminosity and health so using two different moisturizers is perfectly fine with me. Of course quality plays a big role but I recommend you start somewhere. Taking care of your skin shouldn't begin later getting a head start can help prevention and strengthen skin layers. A good way of looking at it is putting your skin threw bootcamp.
My point is Ladies & Gents if you use the proper products on your skin and eat right the skin will have you looking like Halle Berry, Angela Bassett & Gabrielle Union just to name a few because the list could go on...
